Rajasthan is one of the most amazing states in India and this beautiful state is known for its history, architectural marvels, diverse cultures, warm people, and for its tasty cuisine. #1 Largest state in India

Rajasthan is India’s largest state by area (342,239 square kilometers). This state is not as old as you think as it came into formation on 30th March 1949. It was formed after 22 kingdoms and principalities merged into a single geographical location.

#2 Home to India’s Largest Districts

Besides Rajasthan being the largest state of India, Jaisalmer is known to be the third-largest district of India with an area of 39313 sq. km. The other three districts namely, Bikaner (28466 sq. km), Barmer (28393 sq. km), and Jodhpur (22901 sq. km) are the fourth, fifth, and sixth largest districts of India respectively.

#3 Land of the Kings Rajasthan

Before the Britishers ruled India, the state of Rajasthan was known as ‘Rajputana‘ and was ruled by various Kings, all superior in their own ways.  Hammer Dev Chauhan, the last King of the Chauhan Dynasty ruled from 1283-1301. Rana Kumbha ruled from 1433-1468 and never lost any battle during his reign.

Hem Chandra Vikramaditya ruled from 1501-1556 wherein he defeated the army of Akbar in the battle of Delhi. Maharana Pratap Singh who ruled from 1540-1597 was the most famous who fought the battle of Haldighati. There were many such brave warriors who ruled this state and increased its honor.


#4 Color-coded cities

The most visible fun fact about Rajasthan is that every city in the state follows a color code. Every city in Rajasthan is Gorgeous and has its own Color Coordinates

Jodhpur is known as the blue city, due to the blue walls of the houses of the locals, Jaipur is known as the pink city, Udaipur as a white city, and Jaisalmer as a golden city. 

#5 Earliest plowed agricultural field

Kalibangan in Rajasthan is one of the primary sites of the Indus Valley Civilization that thrived for around 450-600 years. Kalibangan is one of the earliest plowed agricultural fields in India.

A visit to this site will give you a brief look at how the ancient people lived with mere facilities. You can arrive at Bikaner on a train, since the Bikaner railway station turns out to be the closest rail route station, around 205 km away from Kalibangan.

#6 Nuclear test destination

India’s first nuclear test was conducted in Pokhran on 18th May 1974. The bomb was detonated on the army base Pokhran Test Range (PTR), in Rajasthan, by the Indian Army under the supervision of several key Indian generals. After the first nuclear test, India conducted a set of five nuclear tests that left the world stunned.

#7 The Great Wall of India

The Kumbhalgarh Fort, lying in the Aravalli ranges has the longest wall in India, and the second-longest wall in the world, after the Great Wall of China. The site is also listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The huge design of Kumbhalgarh Fort makes it perhaps the most elaborated forts in India. The fort is located at a height of 1,100 meters on a hilltop with parameter walls extending 36 kilometers.

#8 Luxurious Transfers: Palace On Wheels

This luxury train takes you on a journey into the royal land of sand dunes and grand palaces.

The concept and design of this train are based on the royal culture and customs of Rajasthan and the name Palace on Wheels was derived from the royal background of the coaches.

#9 Kuldhara: The Abandoned Village

Kuldhara is a disconnected town, situated in Rajasthan at a distance of 18 kilometers from Jaisalmer city. Some 300 years ago, it used to be a prosperous village of Paliwal Brahmins under the state of Jaisalmer.

According to studies, the place was abandoned in the early 19th century due to different stories narrated by the locals.  This place is a protected monument and is maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). 

#10 Home to a haunted town: Bhangarh

Bhangarh, situated in the Alwar area is perhaps the most spooky and haunted fort in India. It is located on the border of Sariska Reserve in the Aravalli Ranges. The fort was established by Bhagwant Das for his younger son Madho Singh in the 16th century.

The entire village of Bhangarh is believed to be cursed by a Tantrik who tried to woo the beautiful princess Ratnavati. The thrill of this place can be witnessed only during daylight as the entries to Bhangarh are prohibited between sunset and sunrise. To this date, the village remains barren, in the same condition as the villagers had left then.
